Who’s in Charge Here? – Managers in the Supply Chain Warehouse

warehouse worker1.jpg As Android continues to proliferate through the Supply Chain landscape, the mobile worker becomes far more efficient in his efforts.  The modernization of character-based applications improves productivity by making the user function more fluidly; eliminating unnecessary keystrokes, streamlining every transaction.  Behind the scenes, the WMS Application is the same, but the navigation of that application is the difference between crawling and walking.

Improving a worker’s processes is clearly job one. It is the place where most distribution centers can cut operational costs significantly.  Many workers functioning smarter equates to a more productive workday, so a 15% improvement in productivity for 100 pickers working a 40-hour week can equate to a savings of tens of thousands of dollars per month in labor.  That is simple mathematics.  The Justification for modernization of the Terminal Emulation environment using Zebra’s All-Touch TE becomes a no-brainer.

But What about the Warehouse Manager or Shift Supervisor? Can they Benefit from Modernization?

Workers in the typical warehouse perform the labor-intensive functions like Picking, Put-Away, Inventory, etc. using a rugged handheld like a Zebra TC8000, an MC9200 or wearable WT6000.  Their access to the WMS is limited to those transactions and quite often require the Manager or Supervisor to override  their standard processes when exceptions are necessary. This may require warehouse staff to spend time hunting down someone who is never in the same place twice, compounding the problem.  Often exceptions require access to transactions and features not available without supervisory credentials.

Doesn’t it make sense for the Warehouse Manager to perform these functions on a management device?

Doesn’t it make sense to modernize those features for the benefit of the highest paid resources in the warehouse and improve their productivity?

The Zebra TC52/57 Series Handhelds along with Zebra’s All-Touch TE are the ideal solution for the busy Warehouse Manager, giving him the open capabilities of an Android Touch Computer, including Push to Talk Express and any number of open system applications.  The modernization of the supervisory transactions saves time for both manager and worker alike.  When a line picker requires an override, that picker is often stuck until hi problem is resolved, stopping his/her movement until the supervisor completes the adjustment.  The combination of PTT Express and a modern transaction can turn a disruption in productivity measured in minutes into a short PTT conversation resolution that is measured in seconds.

How is this modernization done?

The answer RM²:  Rapid ATTE - The fastest way to Migrate and/or Modernize a green screen environment.

The Terminal Emulator is called All-Touch Terminal Emulation (powered by Ivanti).  It is pre-licensed on a number of Zebra devices and available for purchase for many others (See Mobility DNA Matrix )

(Part # SW-ALLTOUCHTE-AND)

For Legacy Wavelink TelnetCE Users:

If your client wants to transition to a more Graphical User Interface, while still running green screen host on their Android devices, they can run modernize using the RM² online tool and by scanning a few StageNow bar codes.  This will convert their application into an interface that looks and functions more like a graphical interface in less than 5 minutes --> Watch the Modernize Video

StageNow will install the latest version of ATTE directly on the device, along with any settings required by the client. Very Simple.

Don't have a previous configuration?

No problem.  Just key the host settings into the RM² portal.  You will find it here, Select Get Started
