does anyone know if the MK500/4000 can use 802.3af POE power? the PMB for the MK500 says that it can but the stand-alone power supplies listed for it are 24volts compared to the 48v poe !!! the PMB for the MK4000 says that it "will" support POE in the future. would that be just firmware upgrade or a whole new MK, does anyone know? thanks, afshin

There is a problem with the MK4000 regarding POE. It will work sometimes and not others. Usually it will fail when you try to reboot it after it's been running for a while. Do not position the MK4000 as working on POE until it is officially supported. We have a partner who ignored this and has pilot stores in, and they are having problems. I believe that the fix will be hardware.
Dan, The MK4000 does not currently support PoE. We will be releasing new hardware configurations towards the end of this year which will support the 802.3at standard not the 802.3af standard. The MK4000 needs too much power to operate on the 802.3af standard. There will be a PMB released shortly on these new configurations. Also, regarding the earlier post about using AP-PSBIAS-1P2-AFR. If you use a port injector or a device that supports the 802.3at standard on the current MK4000 it is possible to power up the device but there is a strong possibility that you could damage the ethernet port which is why we are making hardware changes so the MK4000 will be fully compliant with PoE. The MK4000 was announced without PoE support and we recommend waiting till the new configuration is released until we have any customers try it. David
Both MK500 and MK4000 work ok with our AP-PSBIAS-1P2-AFR POE. Just tested them in our lab. Luis
