We have a customer who currently has a mix of AP300s, being managed by an RFS7000 and AP4131 (stand alone not being managed by the RFS7000) and they are having roaming issues.  We tried to explain to the customer that it is not best pratice to have a mix of AP300 and AP4131 but the customer is resistive to changing out the AP4131s with AP300s at this time without docuemtnation showing that this can be causing their roaming issue.  Does anyone know of any such documentation?

Hi Fred, From what I recall the AP4131 communicate with each other sending the proprietarty packets 8780, 8781, 8782 so that they can all hear each other and notify who has what station so they can update their MU TABLES.  With the RF Switch all the informations from the AP 300s come back to the switch so the RF Switch knows what AP has which station to forward the packet back to.  So having a mix environment would definetly cause some issues having a Stand Alone APs mixed with RFS7000/AP300 would be an issue. One option you could look at doing is change the firmware on the AP4131 so that it would be adopted and manage by the RFS7000.  Then you have all the Station information being seen by our RF Switch.  You might want to start at a specific area so you can prove to the customer that a certain area with all the APs (AP 300/4131 being managed by the RFS7000) is not having roaming or disconnect issues. Hope that helps. Mark
