Hi Do we have any Wirless Network deployments in the mining sector where a network has been extended down a mine shaft to provide limited extention on the Wirless network to some underground areas? Any information and refferences will be welcome. Regards

I installed some 802.11 (the old 11MB stuff) in point to point mode in a coal mine is southern Illinois about 10 years ago.(I was with Cabletron networks at the time, so it was not Motorola gear)  We only had to cover a distance of about 500 feet, so we used some yagi directional antennas.. There are lots of problems in underground situations, but it has been done... I would also think about the potential for explosions and gas in these situations. I dont know if our AP's are isafe, but it may be worth investigating
