Team, We sre working on a U.S. Federal Government opportunity that requires deployment to locations with temperature extremes. The AP 7131s will be mounted inside an enclosure which may be mounted indoors or outdoors. Other AP models are not an option because this customer requires a FIPS 140-2 validated solution. Has anyone had any expperience working with APs in very hot or very cold environments? Think Dead Valley to Alaska, or warehouses with no A.C.to freezers. If so, what was the environment in which the APs were used, which APs were used, and how many? Thanks. Mario

Hi Mario, At my large DIY Home Improvement customer we have AP650s and AP7131s (tri-Radio) mounted outdoors in plastic NEMA enclosures in all 50 states of the US (about 12000+ externally mounted APs) . The enclosures are "light gray" in color and only have 2 small vents in the enclosure. In addition to the AP there is also a Fiber Transceiver in the same enclosure. There are NO power supplies in the enclosure since we use 48 volt DC power into the enclosure for devices. We have enclosures mounted on the front, side, and back walls of the stores, thus they are exposed to direct sunshine for much of the day. There is no auxillary heating or cooling technology utilized. We have not had any indication of increased failure of these AP's as compared to AP's not mounted on the exterior of these locations. We do periodically have "water damage" if an installer improperly mounts the enclosure and provides a water entry point into the enclosure.
